Rosewater, sugar, butter and nuts are other ingredients that give this sweet a special taste with starch being the main ingredient of masghati.

Using cardamom is optional and it gives the sweet a special taste and aroma.

With a history going back to almost 2 centuries ago, at the beginning of the Qajar dynasty, Masghati is used in mourning ceremonies and also as a souvenir.
